• Design Tip – Make your CSS work(properly)!

    This one has had me upset ever since I made the switch to a dark theme. Designers rely on default font or background colors as they lay out their websites. This is entirely fine until you set just one and not the other. One might think that I am only talking about small sites here, but I just had to manually fix (on my browser) a field on this tiny little site called Facebook! I mean, really just over 300 million users, why bother with such a trivial thing like font color?

  • How Heavy Really is WordPress?

    An interesting turn of events has led me to tinker with the WordPress blog software. After doing some chatting on IRC the other night, I came into contact with someone needing a bit of help. One thing led to another and the topic of developing a website utilizing WordPress as a Content Management System for websites came up. I mentioned that I was aware of the project and knew that I would certainly be able to modify the source as needed to provide the functionality this customer would desire. So, off to the WordPress website I go to download the latest version to play with, as if this project did come to fruition, I wanted to be as ready as possible. Besides, it’s been a couple of years since we reworked the Gray Matter website, so this seemed a fantastic opportunity to give ourselves a new look.
